about

My own little Devil went down to Georgia / Daniel Webster story. Another Country Rocker, that get your toes tappin and hearts pumpin.... The lead's a killer, and the story is classic.
When I wrote this I was in a kind of Marty Robbins frame of mind that turned Eddie Van Halen....

lyrics

The Devils Highway © Cowboy BobSawyer - 2003

Left a man back in Laredo,
My bullet in his head
Shot down in cold blood,
playin with fire in another mans bed
No it wasn’t my hand that killed that man,
But that won’t save me from the noose
Only me an’ God, and a girl named fire
Will ever know the truth

So Tonight I’ll ride, the Devils highway
Gotta hundred demon cowboys, on my trail
If I ride all night, by mornin’s light,
I can make the Rio Grande
And the Devils daughter breathes fire…again

I thought she was my woman,
I thought she’d be my wife
But when you play in Satans playground,
Lord, your playin with your life
She bent my mind so I’d see red,
In a rage that she kept stoked
She took the life of an innocent man
trying to steal this cowboys soul

So Tonight I’ll ride, the Devils highway
Gotta hundred demon cowboys, on my trail
If I ride all night, by mornin’s light,
I can make the Rio Grande
And the Devils daughter breathes fire…again

Across the Mexican Border,
Just south of the Rio Grande
They say there lives an old outlaw,
who snatched his fate from fires hand
Yeah I bet my soul, against a bag of gold
that I could reach the border that night
She killed a man, put his blood on my hands,
but now I dance in fires light

Cause that night I rode, the Devils highway,
Had a hundred demon cowboys, on my trail
I rode all night, and at mornin’s light,
I crossed the Rio Grande
And left the Devils daughter breathin fire… again
