Sweet Country Sound

Sweet Country Sound
I was raised off the land you see
Caught Fish and I picked from trees
I learned real early how to work real hard
Grew Crops, had a steer or two,
Chopped Wood had a chicken coop
Yeah, we were country, down to our bones
But at night when the work was done,
Oh lord we had some fun
Yeah, neighbors would come in from miles around
A big gut bass & a slide guitar,
a fiddle player or a honkytonk harp
no tellin what’cha hear, but you know it’ll be good
and old Hank would always find his way,
Waylon, Willie and Johnny’d get played
Lord they blessed our house most every night
Daddy would sing them low down blues,
just like ol’ Hank used to
Mamma would jump in and harmo-nize
Just give me that Sweet Country sound,
I don’t need no rock to roll me around
That Sweet Country sound
It’ll kick my boots till they lay me down… “get down”
When I grew up I moved out east,
became a genuine city fried freak
Let my hair grow long and my belt grew wide
I was playing that rock and roll,
but it just didn’t soothe my soul
Like that country music, from way back home
So I dug out my boots and my daddy’s black hat,
Got me a honky-tonk band
I started playing my music everywhere I’d go
From the New York city Broadway lights,
to Los Angeles neon nights
I spread the seeds of country, and watched em grow
Oh Hank would always find his way,
Waylon, Willie and Johnny’d get played
Lord they blessed our house most every night
Daddy would sing them low down blues, just like ol’ Hank used to
Mamma would jump in and harmo-nize
Just give me that Sweet Country sound,
I don’t need no rock to roll me around
That Sweet Country sound
It’ll kick my boots till they lay me down… “get down”

Big Train © Cowboy Bob Sawyer 1/12/05
My baby’s gone and left me again
Big train roll on down that track
My baby’s gone and left me again
Big train roll on down that track
Big train gonna take my baby away,
And she ain’t never comin back
Well she said she don’t love or need me no more
She packed her bags and walked out that door
Well now she’s gone, and she took her things
I don’t know if I should cry or sing
My baby’s gone and left me,
Big train roll on down that track
Big train gonna take my baby away,
She ain’t never comin back
No fussin no fighting no cryin today
She just jumped in a cab that took her away
I’m tellin ya guys if it were up to me,
That Cab would take her down to timbuck three
My baby’s gone and left me,
Big train roll on down that track
Big train gonna take my baby away,
And she ain’t never comin back
Big train, keep rollin down that track,
Big train, keep rollin down that track
Big train gonna take my baby away, she ain’t never comin back
Well everythings fine, yeah everything’s good
Ever since that woman left the neighborhood
The birds all sing and the sun now shines,
Since she been gone, I’ve been feelin fine
My baby’s gone and left me again
Big train rollin on down that track
Big train gonna take my baby away, she ain’t never comin back
Big train gonna take my baby away, she ain’t never comin back

Brand New Man

Brand New Man © Cowboy Bob Sawyer - 2006
I wanna ride with Jesse James,
Shoot with Billy the Kid,
yeah, a home on the Range
I wanna hunt, with Buffalo Bill,
Float old man river by myself
I wanna a drink, with Calamity Jane,
Drive a herd of cattle on the Texas plains
I wanna be, in that Cowboy dream
Ridin high in the saddle, like the good lord meant it to be
The OLD WEST life may have been a hard life to lead
You lived by your guns, or you didn’t have much life to leave
But a man was a man, with his future laying in his own hands
Yeah when God made the Cowboy, he made a brand new man
I want five down, from Doc Holliday,
Deal Wild Bill Hickock, Aces & Eights
I ‘d walk the streets, at night with Wyatt
Watch Judge Roy Bean hang them bandits high
I wanna Rustle with Belle, Blaze a trail with Carson
Run, from the law, with the Younger’s and Dalton’s
I wanna be, in that Cowboy’s dream
Ridin high in the saddle, like the good lord meant it to be -
The OLD WEST life may have been a hard life to lead
You lived by your guns, or you didn’t have much life to leave
But a man was a man, with his future laying in his own hands
Yeah when God made the Cowboy, he made a brand new man
I wanna rob a train, that runs on steam,
The Sundance kid, Butch Cassidy riding with me
I wanna duel at noon,
the sun blazin high
Pat Garret , Johnny Ringo at my side
I wanna be, in that Cowboy dream
Ridin high in the saddle, like the good lord meant it to be
The OLD WEST life may have been a hard life to lead
You lived by your guns, or you didn’t have much life to leave
But a man was a man, with his future laying in his own hands
Yeah when God made the Cowboy, He made a brand new man
Yeah, when God made the Cowboy ,
He made a helluva man

Easy Street

Easy Street © Cowboy Bob Sawyer 2005
Where in the hell is Easy Street?
I wanna make lots of money, but not have to work
Yeah that’s the job for me
Well I’ve searched the want ads high & low
But every boss man tells me just where to go
And I’m telling ya friend, it twernt on easy street
Well I’ve been working dang near all my life,
Puttin the smoke in another mans pipe
And I figured it’s time that I took up smokin too
When I saw this ad on the television set,
Bout how I can buy houses and get lots of rent
And do all this without even putting a penny down
So I found me house with a two car garage,
A swimming pool, like the movie stars
It even had a little dude holdin a lamp in the front yard
So smiling big, I went to get my keys,
but when I walked through the door I heard someone yell freeze
And the next thing ya know I was sitting in the county jail
...Something bout breaking and entering
Where in the hell is Easy Street?
I wanna make lots of money, but not have to work
Yeah that’s the job for me
Well I’ve searched the want ads high & low
But every boss man tells me just where to go
And I’m telling ya friend, it twernt on easy street
I was kicked back & listenin to the ra-di-o
When this dude said man I got your pot of gold,
Its called online trading, and there's a ton of cash to be made
All you need is a computer and a telephone line
And before you know it you’ll be livin real fine
Its like playin the casino, without all that ding ding ding
So I got hooked up and was a stock market fiend
I was trading coffee & jellybeans,
IBM and Kmart to name a few
But then coffee went down, so did the beans
Kmart went under and they took my dreams
And IBM kept the I and left me with a BM
Where in the hell is Easy Street?
I wanna make lots of money, but not have to work,
Yeah that’s the job for me
Well I’ve searched the want ads high & low
But every boss man tells me just where to go
And I’m telling ya friend, it twernt on easy street
Where in the hell is Easy Street?
I wanna make lots of money, but not have to work
Yeah that’s the job for me
Well I’ve searched the want ads high & low
But every boss man tells me just where to go
And I’m telling ya friend, it twernt on easy street
Can someone point me out to easy street!

Love at First Drink

Love at First Drink © 2004 Cowboy Bob Sawyer
Well it all seemed to happen on a Sat’day nite,
the moon was full & the stars were bright
I’d just gone into town to wet my whistle at the local inn,
I wasn’t lookin for trouble, I had a plan,
I was lookin to see that bartender man,
And drown my weekly sorrows in a bottle of gin
I’d just finished drinkin up my first round or five,
my courage was up, I was feelin alive
I was lookin through the bottom of my glass,
when I saw her standing there
I turned my head, to see who was there,
but I guess it was me she was giving that stare
I’m tellin you guys, I think my luck was about to change
Cause she was blonde, tall & thin, with a come and get me grin,
and I shoulda known right & there that my ship was sank,
But I was in love, with anything that moved,
and then she moved me
yeah, I was in love… love at first drink….
Well she batted them long blonde lashes at me,
my knees got weak, she’s just gotta be
That angel I’d been prayin long & hard for since I was a teen.
I jumped off my stool & headed her way,
I was thinkin of sumpin suave & deboner to say
When this truck in a leather jacket, spun her around
I stopped dead in my tracks, & started to leave,
But then she turned around, hell she was lookin at me,
And I swear I saw a look of fear a coming from her eyes
Well I’m not usually the fighting kind,
I say live and let live that’s my state of mind,
But then she started to cry and I turned into one of them super guys
Cause she was blonde, tall & thin, with a come and get me grin,
and I shoulda known right & there that my ship was sank,
But I was in love, with anything that moved,
and then she moved me
yeah, I was in love… love at first drink….
Well I grabbed me a chair, broke it over his head,
He just turned around, that’s when I knew I was dead,
I tell ya this guy was one big muscle with broken teeth
I needed something fast to even this race,
so I got me a bottle, smashed it cross his face
He just spit out the glass and smiled, man, I was too deep
Then he grabbed him a table and held it up in the air,
I didnt wanna be around to see where it'd land
I just grabbed ol’ angel eyes by the arm and headed out that bar
Well Lady luck musta been with me that night,
cause when he threw the table he was off to the right
and It crashed through the window, as we hi-tailed it out to the car
There’s a moral to this story thats gotta be told,
if your out gettin schnockered & your feelin kinda bold
And a certain little angel comes a knockin ‘cross your door
You better turn and run, you better head for the hills
Cause your gonna be sorry when you get the bill
Cause I’m tellin ya guys, she’ll have ya comin back for more
Cause she’ll be blonde, tall & thin, with a come and get me grin,
and ya better know right then & there that yer ship is sank,
But you’ll be in love, oo’ with anything that moves,
then she’ll move ya, oh you’ll be in love,
Love at 1st drink

Too Many Tear Drops

Too Many Teardrops in my Coffee © 1987 - Cowboy Bob Sawyer
Well you told me you were going out this evening
With some girlfriends to a late night picture show
Well you’ve taken me for a fool one too many times
And this may be the time, I’m gonna go
Cause there’s too many teardrops in my coffee
From too many heartaches in my beer
From too many lonesome nights I’ve been spending
Waiting home, and wishing you were here
Well your wedding ring was off your finger this morning
I found it in the pocket of your jeans
With a matchbook from a local motels bar room
You just laughed and said, It wasn’t what it seemed
Cause there’s too many teardrops in my coffee
From too many heartaches in my beer
From too many lonesome nights I’ve been spending
Waiting home, and wishing you were here
Well I packed my bags again and said that it’s over
Talking to an empty room once again
You’ve kept me hangin on one too many times
Breaking my heart each time, but now it won’t mend
Cause there’s too many teardrops in my coffee
From too many heartaches in my beer
From too many lonesome nights I’ve been spending
Waiting home, and wishing you were here
Waiting home, and wishing you were here

Don't Kiss me Once

Don’t kiss me Once - © 2003 - Cowboy Bob Sawyer
Don’t kiss me once, then turn your back and say you never did
Don’t play the games we used to play, way back, when we were kids
Your teasing just aint pleasin, I just want to hold you tight
So kiss me more than once and say you’ll love me through the night
Well i’ve played this game of cat n mouse, way to long you see
Yeah everytime I start to pounce, you turn and run from me
Then you walk right back, into my trap, but you never close the door
And just when I make my move, you turn and run just like before
Don’t kiss me once, then turn your back and say you never did
Don’t play the games we used to play, way back, when we were kids
Your teasing just aint pleasin, I just want to hold you tight
So kiss me more than once and say you’ll love me through the night
Well a man’s got a beatin heart, full of desires don’t cha see
But, with all your leadin on girl, you’ve made, my heart weak
So don’t be surprised, if my big brown eyes, find other girls in town
That’ll hold me tight and treat me right, If you don’t come around
Don’t kiss me once, then turn your back and say you never did
Don’t play the games we used to play, way back, when we were kids
Your teasing just aint pleasin, I just want to hold you tight
So kiss me more than once and say you’ll love me through the night
So kiss me more than once , and say you’ll love me ……..
Through the night !

Tumbleweed

TumbleWeed © 2005 - Cowboy Bob Sawyer
He barely stood 5 ft tall,
Aw, but he was a giant amongst men
The folks all around called him tumbleweed,
Cause of the way he came blowin on the wind
No one was really sure of just where he came from,
but everyone around knew where he belonged
And what his past carried had long been left behind
It was here and now, that he called home
Dusty roads and one night stands, were all he ever knew
Living life one day at a time, with nothing left to lose
The story goes that they met one night,
On his way of just passin’ through
But with a smile and a kiss, in the risin’ moon light,
This ramblin man sprung roots
It wasn’t long before he was a downright outstanding citizen
And she was the envy the girls all around
And soon this fine young man the folks called Tumbleweed
Had this country girl dreaming of silk n’ lace wedding gowns
The life of a rambler, cheater & gambler,
were gone like yesterdays blues
Sent from above, this woman he loved,
God knows she loved him too
Well they got married one evening
in the breath of a soft summer breeze
On the bank of the creek where they first met
All the town folk came out to see these two young lovers
As the full moon rose over a blood red sunset
Now it seemed like years that they lived in joyful wedded bliss
He had all but forgotten about his scarred and troubled past
But when you’re the outlaw with the quickest gun
Dreams of happiness just ain’t meant to last
He’d lay a rose on her pillow each night,
and sing her a simple mans song
Forever & ever is all I can give,
and forever is where we belong
He was hanging his wifes picture on the wall that night,
when the boy outlaw and his brother came busting in
he didn’t bother turning round’ cause he knew it didn’t matter
The dream he’d been living was about to end
She found him on the floor, barely hangin onto dear life
He took her hand and brought it up to his chest
He opened his eyes one last time, and whispered “forever”
And her Tumbleweed finally came to rest
